This fightstick is surprisingly good, especially at the 70 dollar price point. It has a good angle on the stick, tight enough for quick combo's but wide enough to prevent mistakes. The buttons are a tad loose compared to the top of the line sticks, but is otherwise very responsive. The button arrangement allows you to use American style (right 6) or Japanese style (left 6) hand placement.
The construction is solid, its heavy enough not to slide around or feel like a flimsy toy - which unfortunately Hori sticks tend to.
The only complaints are
1: The diagonal directions are somewhat shallower compared to the cardinal directions, requiring you to go deep into that direction to register a diagonal, so those of you who like to use shortcut motions for moves like Shoryuken in Street Fighter 4 will find it difficult to hit directly. However, it makes non-shortcut entry very smooth and fluid, so fireballs and non-shortcut Shoryuken commands are entered much quicker.
2: The 9 and 10 (start/select) buttons are a little bit easy to hit accidentally especially during frantic combo's and other button mashing scenario's
3: The glue on the rubber feet is a little weak, but i fixed that with superglue and is a non-issue now.
4: It has a nice clicking sound when you hit the stick or the buttons, which is normally a plus, but can wake people up if you're playing late at night :(
Overall, the stick isn't as good as the AUD$250 imported Madcatz Tournament Edition Fightstick, but considering that you could get of these for the same price, these sticks kick all of the other sticks in the same price range out of the water, even some sticks that are in a higher price range. Definitely worth it! |
