It's well and good looking for top quality headphones within a budget of $500. But what if you don't have that much? What if your budget restricts you to paying less than $200? The Audio-Technica AD700 is the answer to that question. There's an amazing punch to both the treble and midrange, and every note has a real 'bite' to it, a bite that no other headphone in this price bracket comes close to matching. Even the Sennheiser HD595, the nearest 'competitor', doesn't have anywhere near the level of clarity in the highs and mids.

Our main concern with the AD700 lies in the bass, as it is just as tight and refined as the rest of the spectrum, but some (ourselves included) may consider it to be understated, especially compared to similar headphones from both Beyerdynamic and Sennheiser. Similarly, some may have initial reservations about the comfort of the unusual 3D-Wing design, but we believe that it does eventually grow on you. Overall though, the AD700 is an incredible headphone for the price, and we believe it represents the peak of value for any open headphone less than $300.
