AKG K701

The AKG K701 is a true open audiophile headphone, with excellent clarity and separation. In comparison to the DT880, the K701 does have slightly greater punch and clarity in the highs and mids, however it lacks the satisfying depth of the Beyerdynamic bass. We also found the unconventional headband design to be slightly less comfortable for extended use. What the K701 does have is an incredibly 'fast' and precise treble and midrange, and a truly amazing wide open soundstage, one that is unparralelled in any headphone we have heard to date. Ultimately, the decision between the K701 and the DT880 is a tradeoff, not a compromise, and will vary depending on personal tastes.

It now appears that the K702 will be released alongside the K701 as a studio model with detatchable plug. No other changes are expected.
